There are so many people of Caitlyn Jenner’s generation who have struggled with their gender all their lives, and many are probably not out to their families and friends. They’ve grown up with so much shame and so little information. Every transgender person who is out and about in public is brave, and their presence, their visibility, is the most important thing they can do to help other trans people. The more awareness people have of the experience and reality of being transgender, the less likely they are to be casually dismissive of that experience. The more normal it will be to everyone.
